Allan Howard spent his early life in Chicago in the 1980s. His neighbourhood was one of deprivation and gang culture. Allan's mother was determined to provide a different life path for her only son.
Allan joined me back in June 2023, for the episode 'The Strength of a Mother'. He told the story of how this single mother worked so very hard to enable them to move to a better area and for Allan to attend a decent school. She wanted him to have chances that other kids in the area never got.
Allan returns in this episode to take up the rest of the story. How did Allan fare?
Life in the 'hood' may teach you survival and to be street wise but Allan says that it can not teach you what life is truly about.
Allan says he always strives to be an example of what is possible no matter where you come from.
